This is Xylocopa tabaniformis.And it is a carpenter bee. All that I could find out about this species is that there is a subspecies Xylocopa t. orpifex. Apparently there is nothing recorded on these 2 bees.
Why that is I don't have the slightest clue. But if I find anything I'll post it.
